Vera Irene Varca, 87, of Shinnston, passed away on Saturday, February 14, 2026 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born August 27, 1938 in Haywood, a daughter of the late Ross Patrick and Nellie May Currey Martin.
She is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, Timothy Lee Varca, whom she married August 4, 1958.
She is also survived by her two children, Timothy D. Varca and his wife Jo of Morgantown; and Tonia Lynn Varca Mazza and her husband David of Clarksburg; four grandchildren, Kassandra Varca Lisac and husband Miha of Morgantown; Jamie Tyler of Morgantown; Madison Shae Bonasso and husband Joseph of Morgantown; and Christian David Mazza of Tampa Bay, FL; her three great-grandchildren, Johnathan, Emielee and Amelia Lynn; her sisters-in-law, Sandy, Diane, and Mary Martin; her brother-in-law, Jim Slusser; as well as several nieces, nephews, and close friends.
In addition to her parents, Vera was preceded in death by her siblings, JoEllen Slusser; Mike and wife Ethel Martin; Patrick Martin; and Howard Martin.
Vera was a founding member of the Lumberport High School Alumni Association. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She also enjoyed crocheting, baking, square and round dancing. Vera was employed as a cook with the Harrison County Board of Education. She also enjoyed the holidays and traveling to Branson and the beach. Vera was a member of Jewel City Church.
Friends will be received at Perine Funeral Home, 1348 S. Pike St. Shinnston, on Tuesday from 2-8pm. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday at 11:00am with Pastor Robert Shingleton officiating. Interment will follow at the Lumberport Lions Club Cemetery.
