Louise Simmons, 93, of Morgantown, passed away Saturday, August 29, 2026, under the loving care of Martha’s Manor. She was born in Parkersburg on September 25, 1932, a daughter of the late Coke and Helen Shilling Welch.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lendell Simmons.
She is survived by her son, David Simmons and his wife Angela; her brother, David Welch; and her friend and caregiver, Wiley Newbold, Morgantown.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Gloria Jean Simmons; and her sisters, Joann and Rosalie.
Louise was a graduate of Ritchie County High School, earned her Bachelor’s Degree from Salem College, and her Master’s Degree in Education from West Virginia University. She taught 8th grade reading and music in Harrison County Schools.
She was the choir director and organist for Stealey United Methodist Church, and performed with the Madrigal Singers of Clarksburg.
A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport, on Saturday, September 26, 2026, from 12 Noon – 1 p.m., where a celebration of her life will be held at 1 p.m.
