John Howard Kendall, 85, of Shinnston, WV passed away on May 23, 2026 at Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center. He was born October 6, 1940 in Shinnston, WV, a son of the late William Kendall and Linnie St. Claire. John is also preceded in death by his wife of 56 years; Freda Ashmore Kendall, brothers; Willliam, George, Jack, Darrell, and Richard Kendall, granddaughter; Jessica Feathers, and one infant son.
John is survived by his daughters; Andrea (Joe) Skelley of Shinnston, WV, Mary Ann (Bill) Cress of Masontown, WV, Diana (Dean) Aires of Aliquippa, PA, grandchildren; Julia (J.R) Way, Ashley Bucsko (John Calissie), Jonathan Feathers, Ryan (Hannah) Aires, Erica Aires (William Scoumis), Megan Cress (Chris Ginter), Chelsea Cress (Shane Gaines), Courtney Cress (Matt Pyles), great-grandchildren; Hannah Brown, Kendalyn Pierce, Aleena Pierce, Jaymz Skelley, Gabryel Bucsko, Zayna Bucsko, Timber Cress, Alexis Snyder, Saxon Gaines, Amelia Aires, and Addison Davis.
John served in the Unites States Army in the 101st Airborne division. After his time in the service, he was employed with and retired from Robinson Run No. 95 Mine as the mine foreman and a member of the mine rescue team. He was a member of the Charles Street Christian Church in Shinnston, WV. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 31 and the Shinnston Moose 929. John also served as co-grand marshal of the Veterans parade. In his spare time, he enjoyed gardening, bocce, playing horse shoes, golfing, softball, playing music, and building model trains. John especially loved reminding his family to keep their stick on the ice, words of encouragement they will forever cherish.
Friends and family will be received on Wednesday, May, 27, 2026 from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Harmer Funeral Home, with a funeral service to follow at 7:00 PM with Pastor Tom Lasure officiating.
