Edith Geraldine “Gerry” Ashcraft, 93, formerly of Clarksburg, passed away on Saturday, April 11, 2026. She was born in White Day (Marion County) on April 7, 1933, a daughter of the late James Leonard Moran and Lillie Estella (Compton) Moran.
On February 4, 1956, she married Frederick W. Ashcraft, and after 62 years of marriage he preceded her in death on January 25, 2019.
She is survived by her daughter Vicki R. Haygood and her husband John of Kearneysville; two sisters, Irene Oliveto of Moundsville and Reva Williams and her husband Allen of Winchester, VA; a brother-in-law, Larry T. Bates of Fairmont; a sister-in-law, Judy Moran of Middletown, MD; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother, James O. Moran; a sister, Nancy R. Bates; a step-grandson, John Mitchell Haygood; brothers-in-law, Victor, Jefferson and Royal Ashcraft and their spouses; sisters-in-law, Thelma Belknap, Marjorie Ashcraft Dye; Wilma “Rinky” Gibson, and Wanola Smith and their spouses.
Gerry was a 1952 graduate of Lumberport High School. She was a member and past President of Delta Chapter, Delta Kappa Sorority. She was a member of Enon Baptist Church where she counted tithes for the Sunday School collection, alongside her husband, for many years.
She had retired from WPDX Radio after 20 years as the stations Bookkeeper. She was a member and past officer of the Hope Gas Blue Flame Auxiliary. She was a member of the local AACA Antique Car Club, where she served as club secretary. She and Fred participated in many local car shows and traveled to shows in West Virginia and surrounding states.
And most importantly, she was “the best” Mom to Vicki and her husband John.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in honor of Gerry are requested to be made to Enon Baptist Church, 521 Flinderation Road, Salem, WV 26426.
Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport, on Friday from 6 – 8 p.m., where services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 18, 2026, with Pastor Paul Boyles presiding. Interment will follow in Wallace Lions Cemetery.
