William Scott Nease, 75, of Bridgeport, WV passed away unexpectedly on May 22, 2026. Scott was born on December 30, 1950 in Fairmont, WV. He was preceded in death by his parents, William (Bill) Nease and Wilda Nease, and his brother, Charles (Chuck) Nease.
Scott graduated from Fairmont Senior High School, where he was a three-sport letterman, and he continued his academic and athletic careers at Fairmont State College (FSC). While at FSC, he was a four-year starter for the Falcons football team and wrestled for two years. He was also a member and officer of the TBI fraternity. After college, Scott was drafted and served with the United States Army at Brooke Army Medical Center at Fort Sam Houston, TX. Upon returning home, he attended West Virginia University to complete a master’s degree. Scott was employed at several energy companies and upon his retirement, he was a superintendent at Chesapeake Energy.
He was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather. Scott is survived by his wife Claudia, with whom he shared 50 wonderful years of marriage, his daughter Emily (Chad), his son Josh (Beth), his four beautiful grandchildren Corinne, Carter, Iris, and Lyle, his sister-in-law Linda, and niece Stacey.
Scott loved music, the mountains, and his friends. He had a great love for nature and being outdoors and he passed these passions on to his children and grandchildren, greatly influencing how they see the world. His friendships were a cornerstone to his life, and he had many of them that lasted a lifetime. Through the years, he developed a love for travel and cherished the time spent with friends in new places all over the world. He led an active lifestyle, which included golfing with friends, hiking, and skiing.
To all who knew him, Scott was a genuine, thoughtful, and kind person. Throughout his life, he demonstrated integrity, strong work ethic, and compassion for others. He approached everyone with respect and did his best to understand perspectives other than his own. Through various roles, Scott served as a teacher and mentor who invested time into others. He will be remembered as a wonderful friend whose wisdom, sense of humor, and laughter made life better for those around him. His Christian faith guided all aspects of his life. Scott was an active member in his community and his church. Above all else, Scott enjoyed any and every moment he could spend with his family. Scott’s legacy will be carried forward by those who had the privilege of knowing him.
Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport, on June 9 from 3PM – 6PM, and the service will follow at 6PM with Pastor Josh Rhodes presiding.
