With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Mary Magdalene Lopez, on March 31, 2026.
Mary was born on January 4, 1937, the daughter of the late Charles Erwin and Edith Swiger. After her mother’s passing from pneumonia when Mary was only five weeks old, she was lovingly raised by her paternal grandparents, Charles Russell and Elvira Swiger. She was a member of the Lumberport Methodist Church.
Mary was a smart, strong, and independent woman throughout her life. When her health began to decline, her devoted daughter Janice stepped in to care for her with love and dedication. Mary will be remembered for her radiant smile and how she loved to dance, she was truly a girl who just wanted to have fun.
Her greatest accomplishment and deepest pride were raising her four children. When she treated herself, Mary loved to travel-spending summers with her children at Lake Stoney, visiting family in Maryland, relaxing on cruises, and enjoying winters in Florida. She was an enthusiastic cheerleader at her children and grandchildren’s sporting events and enjoyed watching her granddaughters compete in pageants and dance recitals. She was a loyal fan of The Mountaineers football team. In later years, she found joy in Hallmark movies and never missed a season of Dancing with the Stars.
Mary graduated from Lumberport High School where she was a proud majorette (class of 1954) and West Virginia Business College. She worked at Heinz Nu-Way Feed Store while attending school, later at Rish Equipment, and spent most of her career as a Fuel Accounting Clerk for Monongahela Power Company.
She is survived by her four children: John (Barbara) Lopez, Janice Jaumot, Joyce (Roger) Davis, and James (Shannon) Lopez; nine grandchildren: Amanda Walden, Justin Davis, Stephen (Marissa) Jaumot, Jonathan Jaumot, Katherine (Jake) Keating, Emily, Andrew, Olivia, and John Frank Lopez; and one great-grandchild, Brooklyn Jaumot. She is also survived by her half-sister Marlene (Tom) Avino, niece Shelia (Mike) Book, and nephew William Rusty Benson.
In addition to her parents and paternal grandparents, Mary was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents Albert and Flossie Martin; her sister and brother-in-law, Ellen and Edwin Bargerhuff; her nephew, David Allen Benson.; her Aunt and Uncle, Crystabelle (Jobil) and Guy Lynch, her son-in-law, David Wayne Jaumot; her former husband, Frank “Popeye” Lopez; her special friend, Richard (Dick) Butcher, April, Carissa, and Pam. Special thanks to Hospice for their loving care.
