Hazel “June” Hamilton, 89, of Bridgeport, passed away into the arms of her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown. She was born in Bridgeport on March 27, 1936, a daughter of the late William O. and Mary D. Morrison.
She is survived by her loving husband of 69 years, Virgil H. Hamilton.
Also surviving are their three children, Ralph (Gwen) Hamilton; Wally (Lisa) Hamilton; and Mary (Jake) Frederick; grandchildren, Jana (Arland) Hamilton; Sam (Eva) Beto; Devin (Zach) Anglin; JR (Erica) Hamilton; Jessica (Robbie) Nutter; and John Paul Frederick; and 8 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Wilma (Ralph) Miles and her brother Bill (Ellen) Morrison.
June attended Bridgeport High School and at the age of 42 she returned to Fairmont State and got her RN nursing degree and began working at the nursery in UHC caring for all the babies. Her nursing career was very rewarding to her.
After retirement, June and Virgil loved to travel and took six trips abroad, visiting the Bahamas, Israel, Europe and then a cruise to Alaska. June loved to crochet and you would often find her reading a book about history, especially anything to do with our country and its military. She was a proud member of the DAR and spent hours researching her ancestry. June attended Simpson Creek Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and loved singing in the choir.
Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport, on Saturday, March 7, 2026, from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m., where services will be held at 1 p.m. with Dr. Sean Wegener presiding. Interment will follow in Bridgeport Cemetery.
