Ellen “Lucy” Carder

Ellen Lucille “Lucy” Jenkins Carder, age 84, went home to be with her Lord on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at Maplewood Healthcare Center.
Born on September 8, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Steward and Pearl Hoover Jenkins.
Lucy made her home in Bridgeport with her beloved husband, William “Bill” Carder, who preceded her in death in 2018 after 57 wonderful years of marriage.
A devoted wife, mother, and faithful servant of God, Lucy touched countless lives. She dedicated much of her life to sharing God’s word, visiting the sick in hospitals, singing in the church choir, serving as youth ministry director, and working as church secretary. Most recently, she served as resident council president at her care facility.
Lucy had a passion for antiques and was an avid jewelry collector. She was also a gifted storyteller whose warmth and joyful spirit brightened every room. She will be remembered as a cherished friend, a guiding light, and a true blessing to all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, as well as her brothers Johnny, Jim, Charlie, Kenny, Ronnie, Randy, Earl, Frank; and her sisters Rosetta Queen, Dorothy Nutter, Helen Behun, Delores McCoy and Ruth Poffenburger. She was also preceded in death by her infant sister, Bonnie. She is survived by her sister, Katrina Bise.
She is survived by her loving family, her only child Terri Lynn Hamrick and her husband Mark, grandchildren: Ryan and his wife Kari, Kyle and his wife Ashley, and Haleigh. She was blessed with great grandchildren who brought her tremendous joy: Avery and Kaden (children of Ryan and Kari), and Kinsley and Lane (children of Kyle and Ashley).
Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport on Friday, March 13, 2026, from 4 – 7 p.m., where services will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, March 14, 2026, with Pastor Sherman Goodwin presiding. Entombment will follow at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.
